Mark Keener AICP PP AIA is a Town Planner and Architect with 20+ years of experience working with the creative leadership of neighborhoods, towns, and cities – making places that work. A co-founder of Brown & Keener Urban Design and a past Director of Urban Design for RBA Group, Mark’s work establishes a clear civic framework for public investment, site design, regional growth, and local preservation initiatives. He is an author of “Open Space Design Standards”, the public realm plan for Washington Township Town Center, which was recognized with a CNU Charter Award. Mark was a key contributor to the 2008 Smart Transportation Guidebook, which “codifies” in a structured way how the context of places, from rural to urban, should inform roadway specifications. He is an author of a growing number of Form Based Codes and Design Guidebooks. His work has consistently led to successful preservation and development strategies that reconcile the goals of private entities and the concerns of public agencies. Most recently, Mark led or co-led several exciting initiatives: an EPA-sponsored community action plan with the village of Oak Park (IL), a design workshop for a Glenwood Springs (CO) brownfields site, code and design guidance for Princeton (NJ), concept development for a repositioning industrial district in a Harrisburg (PA) neighborhood as well as ongoing planning initiatives for the beautiful small town of Haddonfield (NJ). This Spring, he has been assisting with a plan update for Philadelphia’s Logan Square neighborhood. Over the summer, he will be assisting SGA Associates with implementation initiatives for Camden (NJ) and Wyomissing (PA).
